About me.
Teacher Scott
Native English Teacher
Nationality: Canadian
Experience: 20+ years

Background:
From December 2000 to September 2020, I dedicated myself to working with at-risk indigenous youth, many of whom were non-English speaking. In this role, I provided counseling and taught conversational English, equipping these young individuals with the language skills necessary for everyday communication. I also played a key role in classroom settings, where I taught English and developed programs tailored to the needs of these youth. During this time, I honed essential counseling skills, including motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, and crisis intervention/conflict management. As an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, I helped address cognitive deficits, learning delays, depression, suicidal ideations, and anti-social behavior. My approach is consistently upbeat, non-judgemental, encouraging, and supportive.

Current Focus:
Since 2018, I have specialized in preparing students for international school admissions in Singapore. My expertise covers a wide range of exam syllabi, including WIDA, SLATE, GLE, CAT 4, CEQ, Oxford English, MidYIS, IELTS, and IB. I have a proven track record of helping students improve their proficiency levels, with significant progress observed after just three months of intensive tutoring.

Teaching Style and Specialties:
I employ a student-centered teaching approach, tailoring lessons to the unique needs and learning styles of each student. My teaching style is highly interactive and engaging, focusing on practical language use and critical thinking. I emphasize building a strong foundation in English, ensuring that students not only excel in exams but also gain confidence in their ability to communicate effectively in real-world situations. My specialty lies in breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps, making challenging material accessible and understandable. Whether working with beginners or advanced students, my goal is to inspire a love for learning and to equip my students with the skills they need to succeed academically and beyond.
